1) How many years have you been competing?
I have been playing since I was in grade school.
2) What were your greatest accomplishments while competing?
a) Defeating China in 1999 in a shootout at the
Rose Bowl in front of over 90,000 fans
b) Being a Four-time All-American and winning the
NCAA Division I Championship four times at
University of North
Carolina
c) Winning the 1986 NCAA Championship with a 34-0
record
d) Named the 1986 Final Four MVP
e) Winning the 1996 Olympic Gold Medal
f) Winning the first ever (WUSA) Professional
Soccer Championship in 2001
3) Do you have sponsors and how do they market you?
Yes. They are NIKE and MET-Rx. I was in the NIKE
commercials in 1999 for the Women's World
Cup
4) What do you do when you train for the season?
We spend a lot of time running and lifting
weights and of course playing soccer.
5) What do you do in the off-season?
I like to play golf, roller-blade, and
surf. I still run and lift weights to stay in shape. I also give
inspirational talks, do soccer camps and
clinics, and meet with various groups.
6) You recently co-authored a book about soccer. What is it
called?
It is called "You Can Be a Woman
Soccer Player". You can find it in most bookstores.
7) Who has been the most influential person in your career?
My parents, Lynda & Chick. They always
believed in me and always encouraged me to go
after my dreams. They were wonderful examples of how
to be a good person and they
always gave me love and support everyday, win or lose.
