HUNTINGTON
BEACH, CA. (October
1, 2002). Women’Sports
Services, a full service women’s sports marketing agency with
divisions in event management, consulting and career services,
has announced that it will not conduct the company’s annual
Girls Sports X-travaganza & Women’s Health & Fitness
Expo in 2003. In an aggressive move towards narrowing its focus on career development for women in sports, Women’Sports Services has announced it will not run the 2003 Girls Sports X-travaganza & Women’s Health & Fitness Expo. “This was a very difficult decision for us. We have had a lot of fun and success with the X-travaganza. However, we really felt the time was right for us to narrow our focus and devote more of our attention towards career development", said Becky Heidesch, Founder & CEO. The annual event has been held in February each year in celebration of National Girls & Women in Sports Day and was believed to be one of the largest events of its kind celebrating the day. The 2002 event was held at Anaheim Stadium (Edison Field) and drew over 7500 female fans and participants for a one-day festival that included celebrity appearances from over 25 female professional and Olympic athletes including Cynthia Cooper, Julie Foudy, Dara Torres, Tisha Venturini and Layne Beachley. Over 30 corporate sponsors and 60 vendors participated in the day, including title sponsor Hyundai Motor America, the Anaheim Angels, Alta Dena Dairy, Scudder Private Investment Counsel, Cingular Wireless, Ralphs and American Express. Women’Sports
Services, originally launched in 1995 with the Women’Sports
Wire and Women’Sports Job Wire, currently manages the online
career centers, WomenSportsJobs.com and WomenSportsCareers.com. Although the company does not have any current events on its
calendar, it is not ruling out career related events in the
future. #
